Hypnotism
The Truth About Hypnosis as It's Used in Past Lives Coaching
Hypnotism, in Western society, has gotten a really bad rap.
Throughout time, and even now, hypnosis has been known more by what it's not than by what it is. One of the most misunderstood words in the English language, hypnotism has been called everything from smoke-and-mirrors to demonic, sometimes for good reason.
Use the term hypnotize and what comes to mind? A fancy showman swinging a shiny watch in front of a row of people, chanting...You are getting sleeeeeeeeeeeeepy. When the participants in his act appear to nod off, he uses suggestibility to have them disrobe or squawk like upset ducks. Or he implants directions for them to do embarrassing things upon "waking up."What I described above is not - let me repeat - not - hypnosis. It's a stage routine.
Hypnosis and Regression. Hypnosis and regression is quite different than this picture. Used by trained therapists (see the page on
choosing a past life regression therapist
), you are safe, respected, and in charge of what happens. You never give up control of your well-being.
Self-Hypnosis. In fact, all hypnosis is self hypnosis. The only people who take their pants off or run around quacking are those who choose to do so. (Why? You'll have to ask them about that.) You can use hypnosis to help yourself relax, prepare yourself for stressful events, and clear your mind to make important decisions.
History of Hypnotism. In this section of pastlivescoaching.com I'll explain hypnosis from the start, taking you through the history of hypnotism, from very early times, through the re-emergence of hypnotism and mesmerism as a modern-day practice.
Hypnosis Trance. Actually, hypnosis is simply a therapeutic trance state induced in a safe, trustworthy environment. You're in a trance many times during each day of your life, and you'll see that it's part of your natural state of being. From that between-sleep-and-waking hypnogogic state to lighting candles for a romantic dinner at home, you're very familiar with trance without even realizing it.
Hypnotherapy. I'll describe the hypnotherapy process as taught by Dr. Brain Weiss, sharing details of the hypnotic regression technique I employ for you to explore your past lives. I've used a similar technique to help clients get over a fear of flying, cross bridges, and increase their creativity.
Suggestibility. Many people are frightened by hypnosis due to the scenario at the top of this page, which uses suggestibility to get people to do what the "hypnotist" says. Trained hypnotherapists are very careful to avoid making suggestions during sessions. We learn to go out of our way to avoid it. As I already mentioned, people aren't as gullible as those stage shows make us out to be. You have built-in self-preservation that keeps you from blindly following anyone's suggestions. I'll explain how I deal with the question of suggestibility in my Past Lives Coaching practice.
Guided Meditation. Here is the beginning of a simple past life regression script. Feel free to try it to relax on your own. It's great preparation before or between past life regression sessions, making your induction quicker and providing you with more time to re-experience your previous and future lives during the session. I've put together a
CD with this guided meditation,
available through my other website. Some people find it easier to follow an external voice than to lead themselves into relaxation.
Split Awareness. This is a term I made up because I dislike the term "hypnosis" and all the negative - though undeserved - weight it carries. I much prefer calling it a state of "split awareness." I'll explain the term in greater detail and my reasons for using it on these pages.
If you still have questions or concerns about hypnosis and how it's used in past life regressions and future life progressions after reading through this information, please
let me know.
I'll do my best to clarify the topic for you.
