Inner Peace
Meditation, Spiritual Growth, Self-Esteem, Attitude, and Stress Reduction
Ahhh -- the elusive inner peace! There are many paths to it, some of which are explored here: meditation, spiritual practices, self-esteem, and attitude -- with more coming all the time! Breathe deeply, relax -- and read these suggestions!
As I considered what to write on this page, I wondered about my own sense of tranquility. Lots of questions popped up for me, some of which I couldn't answer.- Can we achieve individual serenity while living in a world with problems and wars?
- Is tranquility a constant state of being, or does it come and go?
- Is there a point at which spiritual growth is attained, or is it a process that includes glimpses and tastes of calmness along the way?
- How does the way we feel about ourselves affect our spiritual well-being?
- Must we stop participating in the world around us to attain inner harmony?
What are your answers to these questions? Do you have other questions about inner peace to add to the list? Do we even need answers, or can we live with the questions themselves? Let me know what you think through the form below!
Inner Peace: Your Thoughts
What are your thoughts about the questions raised above? Have you experienced Inner Peace? How did it feel? How did you achieve it? Do you struggle attaining that peaceful state, or can you reach it at will? Please share your thoughts, ideas, and techniques with other visitors to Past Lives Coaching.
Meditation
What first comes to mind about inner peace is meditation. Breathing deeply and gently, slowing or emptying your mind, relaxing your body. Sounds simple, doesn't it?
When I try to relax and meditate on my own, I succeed. Unfortunately, the success usually isn't about relaxing. More often than not, I breathe slowly and deeply and begin to relax my muscles. So far, so good. And then some forgotten task comes to mind, or something I need to think through pops into my awareness, or I remember an episode from my past, or I start to plan my future -- you get the idea! There's an art to meditating effectively, and many techniques you can learn to accomplish meditation that leads to inner harmony. I want to share a great site with you - a detailed
meditation techniques guide.
It's written well and presents a large collection of meditation techniques so that you can find the one best suited to your personal style.
Spiritual Growth
Inner peace goes hand in hand with spiritual growth, and deep thinking as well as a multitude of questions (such as above) goes hand in hand with that spiritual growth. You may not agree with everything at this
spiritual intuition site,
but the ideas explored will inspire you to find your own truth, your own center. That is, after all, what internal harmony is all about, isn't it? Knowing and being your true self.
Self-Esteem
Are you surprised to see these two topics paired together? Did you think inner peace was dependent on an "egoless" state? I think that a person has to have a solid ego before becoming "egoless" in a spiritual way. If we're not centered (ego), our spiritual energy disperses around us. I'm not talking about ego as in egocentric, but as self-knowledge, self-awareness, and self-care. As a psychotherapist for the past 20 years, I've worked with a lot of people as they improved their self-esteem. I've seen that as self-confidence and self-care grows, spiritual growth occurs along with it.

If we're not centered in our selves, how can we experience harmony of any kind? Not to worry: self-esteem is attainable.
Explore self-esteem for yourself,
or seek out a good psychotherapist and talk it through with professional support. It's essential to your spiritual growth and tranquility.
Attitude
Inner Peace is a personal state of being in the world. As your experience of it increases, your attitude toward life changes. For instance, your aura relaxes. Others begin to notice differences in the way you respond to what happens and what is said around you.Inner peace brings an increase in optimism. In the circular fashion of most spiritual truths, cultivation of optimism also increases your sense of inner peace. The best news is that a positive outlook can be learned! Here are some great suggestions on
how to cultivate optimism.
Stress Reduction
Life isn't always sunbeams and roses -- we all know that. Stress is a normal part of life, and you have natural ways to deal with it. But when stress becomes more common in your days (or nights), you need to focus attention on it and do something about it.
Even good stress can take its toll. Good stress? Such things as moving, dating, marriage, extreme sports -- for some of us, not-so-extreme sports -- may be enjoyable, but call up reserves of energy and create stress in your mind. The bad stress, when it lasts for long periods of time or when a number of negative stressors occur in your life in quick succession, deplete your ability to respond to them and take control over them. You become slower in returning to your normal equilibrium. You can acquire "worn nerves," a short temper, exhaustion, non-productive anger, even depression from too much stress. So, what do you do to reduce stress? Visit the pages of
