Karma Clearing Creating Good Karma
Karma clearing can help you create good karma in your present and future lives. Here are some easy (and not-so-easy) steps to better karma. As discussed on the Karma Definition page, karma is actually the appearance of opportunities and challenges presented in this life based on your thoughts, intentions, words, and deeds in your past lives. It is the context within which you can choose differently, promoting your spiritual growth and moving your soul closer to enlightenment.
Quick Review 6 Steps to Karma Clearing
To create good karma, you must first face the burdens of karma from your previous incarnations. The six steps to take to turn your karma around are presented in more detail on the Bad Karma page. Here are the summaries of each step:
- Identify the origin of bad karma through past life regressions.
- Experience your possible future lives for motivation.
- Journal to clear your emotional baggage.
- Determine the specific steps you need to take.
- Utilize visualizations to empower change.
- Take your time working through the steps you've chosen.
Free Will and Free Choice
Free will plays a huge role in karma clearing. In the words of His Holiness the Dali Lama (from Path to Bliss):
The very term karma or action is a term of active force, which indicates that future events are within your own hands. Since action is a phenomenon that is committed by a person, a living being, it is within your own hands whether or not you engage in action.
No matter what challenges or obstacles you encounter - be they words or acts from others or situations in the world around you - you never need to play the part of victim. There is always the choice of what action to engage in, always a better response. Choosing the best possible response - the most spiritual response - to any experience is what creates more good karma for your present and future lives.

12 Steps to Right Thoughts and Right Actions
You've undoubtedly heard the saying, Practice Random Acts of Kindness. This is the kind of thing that goes a long way in karma clearing.I'm sure you already know many ways to take right actions. Here are a dozen that, if not already on your list, can be added to it: - Stop before reacting to acknowledge and name your feelings and thoughts.
- Determine the origin of your feelings and thoughts.
- Examine the intent in your reaction.
- Change your intent if it does not lead to right thoughts/right actions; this changes "reaction" to "response."
- Practice positive thinking (notice your negative thoughts, replace your negative thoughts with positive statements, repeat them until they're your natural response)
- Meditate to process any negative emotions that "hang around" and color your life with shadows.
- Practice the Golden Rule or Law of Karma
(read more about it here).
- Always consider the consequences of your thoughts, words, and actions before you take them.
- Be compassionate and considerate of others.
- Remember the world around you and that you are an active part of it.
- Utilize a spiritual practice to encourage good karma (this does not have to be a Buddhist or Hindu practice; all true spirituality teaches how to live a good, positive life).
- Practice seeing and living from your inner truth and Highest Self.

4 Powers of Purification
Buddhism teaches karma clearing through the Four Powers of Purification. As I'm not an expert in Buddhism, please read these only as a very basic introduction to the idea. You may notice some similarity here to the 12-Step Program process. Carlos Castaneda mentions similar steps in the warrior shaman path. These four steps should be done in the order presented here.
Power of the Object
Review your life and list any pain you may have caused others. Of course you can use past life regressions to extend this list into your previous incarnations, which will enable you to accomplish karma clearing from many lifetimes. Here, the term "object" refers to the recipient of your words or actions.
Power of Regret
Realize the result of the above and allow yourself to deeply feel regret for your words and actions. Allow compassion to guide you rather than guilt (which is a non-active emotion and will bog you down and prevent change). Without blame, examine the feelings behind your prior words and actions until you naturally feel regret for them.
Power of Promise
To attain karma clearing, you must change your intent as well as your thoughts, words, and actions. A shift in your intention will arise naturally as a result of steps 1 and 2.
Power of Practice
Implement your new thinking and behavior. Know that you'll probably take some steps toward good karma, then slip back into old, negative habit before you once again embrace change. Continue until your promise transforms into habit.
Any positive steps you take toward karma clearing will create good karma for you. Change is often difficult, requires courage and determination, and takes time. Be patient with yourself. Intention counts, as does awareness and every small step you take toward spiritual growth.
